The Role
Clare College invites applications for a postgraduate scholarship in any field of Christian theology. The award is open to candidates without regard to age, gender, nationality or denomination, and will be awarded to a graduate who has been approved for a course of studies leading to a PhD degree in the Faculty of Divinity. The suitable candidate will have a vocation to Christian ministry – lay or ordained – as well as a commitment to the academic study of theology in the service of the Church, and will be expected to assist the Dean in the life and ministry of the College Chapel. The Decani Scholar contributes to weekly liturgical responsibilities as appropriate and by participating in chapel administration and activities alongside a strong team of Chapel Wardens.
This scholarship is also open to those already ordained who are engaged in, or who shall be pursuing, academic research and will start in October 2024.
Situated in the bustling heart of Cambridge, Clare College offers not only a prestigious setting but also exquisite surroundings, featuring some of the region's most renowned gardens overlooking the River Cam. Our commitment to academic distinction is complemented by an ethos of inclusivity and forward-thinking, fostering an exceptional and inspiring work environment.
Stipend
The award, which is designed to act as a ‘top-up’ scholarship to supplement a grant or other means of support, is valued at £8,000 p.a. It will be awarded for one year in the first instance, and may be renewed for up to three years.
The Application Process

Applicants for the scholarship must name Clare College as their College of first choice on the Board of Graduate Studies application forms for admission as a graduate student in the University, or be able to transfer to Clare if an already registered student of the University.
Applicants are invited to submit a CV, a covering letter to HR@clare.cam.ac.uk indicating their suitability for the role, and two referees. References will be collected prior to interview.
