Master portraits on display in the Hall Gallery
The College’s striking portrait of Eric Ashby (Master 1959-1975) by Bryan Organ can be found above the Gallery on the west wall in Hall. The Ashby era is widely regarded as a pivotal episode in the history of the College in the 20th century. Through his leadership Clare became one of the first three colleges to become co-educational.
Today, Lord Ashby is joined by a portrait of the current Master, Loretta Minghella, the first woman to hold the role in 700 years, painted by portrait artist Wendy Barratt.
