Clare offers a range of dining options for undergraduate students.
The Buttery
Most students eat their meals in the Buttery, which is the College canteen. The Buttery is open for lunch and dinner on weekdays throughout term time, as well as for brunch on Saturday and dinner on Sunday. Students often collect their lunch from the Buttery and take it up to the Hall to eat with friends. Vegan and vegetarian options are always available and the Catering team can accommodate a wide range of other dietary requirements.
The River Room
The College's riverside café overlooks the Cam and College gardens and offers a range of teas, coffees, sandwiches, cakes, and soft drinks. Many Clare students use the café as a relaxed place to study or catch up with friends.
College Formals
Four times a week, students have the option of attending Formal Hall, a three-course meal in which students and academic Fellows of the College dine together. Held in the Hall, Formal is an important aspect of College life, and has helped to forge a close scholarly community across disciplines at Clare throughout our seven-hundred year history. Students usually choose to wear their academic gowns to Formal Hall and these dinners are a popular way to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions.
Gyp rooms
Students also have access to shared kitchens (gyp rooms) in their accommodation where they can prepare snacks and light meals as needed.
The food at Clare is really great and definitely sets us apart from other Colleges. During my time here, I've tried to visit as many College Formals as possible and Clare has always come out on top. The staff are also really friendly and helpful.
