Clare provides accommodation for undergraduates for three years, with the possibility of a fourth year for students on four-year courses. All first-year students live together in Memorial Court during term time and vacate for the holidays. Memorial Court is just across the river from the central Old Court. It is a ten-minute walk from the Sidgwick Site, which is where most arts and humanities subjects have their lectures, and either a twenty-minute walk or six-minute bicycle ride from the Downing Site and West Cambridge Site, where most science subjects have lectures and laboratory sessions.
From second year onwards, students have the option to live at Castle Court, Clare’s undergraduate accommodation in Castle Street and Chesterton Lane. The accommodation at Castle Court ranges from purpose-built student dormitories to houses renovated and converted for student residence. Students living in Castle Court have the option of a nine month licence which covers the academic year.
All student rooms are fully furnished regardless of the room type, rental fee, or location. Many rooms are en-suite and some consist of a combined bedroom and sitting room. All students also have access to shared kitchens (called gyp rooms) and laundry facilities. The cost of accommodation varies depending on room type. You will be able to indicate your room preference before you arrive at Clare.
